Among the many sessions we attended at the DWF Convention this month, one of our favorites was the Dynamic Location Lighting seminar taught by Cliff Mautner. For those of you unfamiliar with his work, Cliff has been a professional photographer for over 25 years, has photographed over 750 weddings, and is known as being able to create amazing images regardless of the lighting conditions.
He has been named one of the world’s top photographers, and prides himself on being able to produce photographs that are technically strong and has no need to edit them afterward to produce a beautiful product. We had the pleasure of learning from him, up close and personally…if you notice, we’re so excited about being small town Ottawa wedding photographers on stage with a big city photographer of his caliber, I’m staring at Cliff with a big goofy grin on my face!

With January off to a great start, I figured it was a good time to sit down and thank all of the amazing people who have helped to make this last year so successful.

To our wonderful wedding clients, a warm thank you for choosing us to capture the most important day of your lives. Being recently married, we know that making choices during wedding planning is not always easy and we are so incredibly thankful to have had such fantastic folks to work with. It is always fun for us to be integrally involved in each wedding, and we’ve had the pleasure of photographing some amazing weddings in 2009.

Today we had the pleasure of photographing our first triplets! A big thank you to their amazing (and brave) parents Brigitte and Keith for a great afternoon. The triplets were on their best behaviour, we barely heard a complaint.

Last weekend was a big one in the BH Photography camp–firstly, we booked two fabulous weddings back to back (Friday evening and Saturday) and the latter was our first same sex ceremony. We were both nervous and excited, because if you were to meet Matt and Alex, they are two very savvy guys who were planning the party of the year! That being said, our “first time” nerves were quickly settled at our consultation over coffee when the guys eagerly gave us some amazing ideas for our own wedding in October. Matt & Alex chose the Britannia Yacht Club as their venue and the staff did an amazing job! Every last detail was taken care of, however there was a rumour of one tablecloth being upside down. It was only a rumour…

Alex Lewis & Matthew Champagne: We can not express anything but the most sincere gratitude for these photos Brian! You were very easy and fun to work with, furthermore very open to suggestion making everything (including the upside down tablecloth) seem effortless! I can assure you...We WILL be recommending you to everyone we know!

Stefano: Great job capturing some great candid moments!

julie c butler: OMG .. This is toooo funny!! I was shooting a wedding the other day .. and saw these guys walk past us on the canal .. headed under the bridge way!!! Great pics .. I love these!! We must have passed each other .. and not noticed!!! ;-)

Victor Saidov: Wow! These look stunning! You did amazing job and the photos got classy feel to them! Keep up the great work!

We first met Val & Marc at the spring Wedding Show. Ivanette had a great long chat with them about their wedding plans for October 2010, and how they were looking for a photographer who thought outside the box. Yes, originally this happy couple was going to take their time to plan their wedding. However, about a month later they contacted us, stating that Marc was to be deployed with the military and they had to move their wedding up to this year. After many frantic phone calls, we finally found a date that worked for their venue, the Renfrew Golf Club, as well as ourselves. Val & Marc had a wonderful (but chilly) ceremony and reception that highlighted their personalities and the love they have for each other.

Well, what a party! We had the honour of being Jamie & Matt’s official wedding photographers this past weekend in Carleton Place. Jamie has been Ivanette’s esthetician since we moved to Almonte and has become a great friend since. Matt and Jamie have been together for seven years, so when he proposed to Jamie last October she called us to make sure we were available for her wedding. Matt is a volunteer fireman with Carleton Place, and well, us firefighters can sure throw a party! I’m sure the good folks over at the Carleton Heritage Inn are going to need a break after two firefighter weddings in a row!

Here are some shots from Jamie & Matt’s wedding:

So it seems the boys had a little difficulty getting ready and had to rely on Jason’s expert knowledge to put them together!

Jamie and Matt had a wonderful service held at the Carleton Place United Church, where lots of laughs were had in a gorgeous relaxed ceremony!

After the ceremony, Jamie and Matt made their exit in first class, aboard Carleton Place’s ladder truck complete with lights and sirens! There were many congratulatory honks as they traveled up the main street…

Once dinner was over, it was time to party, and Carleton Place’s Ocean Wave Fire Company sure knows how to get a party going!

And of course to finish the night off, the members of the Ocean Wave Fire Company had to gather in to get a photo with the gorgeous bride!

Shyann: Great wedding! Some really nice work!

Charlotte Geary: What a fun wedding! I love the fall colors!

Robb Duncan: Great work, Especially love the ring shot with the tiny fire engine!!

Thomas Lester: Great location. So gorgeous!

Gina: There is so much to love about this set of photographs! Great work in capturing their special day.

Jessica: The dress shot is great - it's so quiet and calm, which builds intensity for the rest of the getting ready photos.

Rowan Timothy Sims: Great photos. I love the getaway car! How do you get one of those for your wedding?

We travelled to Greely, a short drive south of Ottawa, over the weekend to shoot Lianne and Stephane’s wedding at Stanley’s Olde Maple Lane Farm. The location was stunning, the bride was gorgeous, and the groom…well, a little nervous!

Lianne arrived to the ceremony site in an antique horse drawn carriage, and the collective gasp that went up from the guests confirmed how beautiful her entrance was. Their ceremony was held on stone steps so that every guest was treated to a great view of the bride and groom, and it involved many of the things they hold so important in their lives–laughter, love, family and friends.

This was not your usual wedding and the couple wanted things to be centered around everyone having a good time – and a good time was had by all! They even got the party started by dancing on the grass outside the reception hall.

Steph is a huge Mustang fan, and he (and his new wife) have more than one sitting in the driveway. Lianne had the Ford Mustang logo engraved on the inside of Steph’s beautiful ring, and both of their rings were made using diamonds from a family heirloom piece.

Zack, Lianne’s son, played a big part in the ceremony and had the very important job of delivering the rings. He took his responsibility pretty seriously and just about stole the show!

Lianne and Steph were so much fun to work with, it truly was the easiest and most enjoyable wedding we’ve ever shot. But then again we love our jobs so much, we tend to say that alot!

I’m not kidding when I say the groomsmen were The Three Amigos, and were memorable to the say the least! The bonds of friendship were very evident at this wedding, and many a funny story was recounted throughout the night…

We are incredibly thankful to be able to call Lianne and Stephane friends…they literally have known us from the beginning of our lives together, and it was both a pleasure and an honour to photograph their day. We had a fabulous time, and I think we’re all looking pretty good for this shot taken in the wee hours of the morning…

Tom and Zaneta were such a pleasure to work with this Saturday. Truth be told, this was one of our favorite weddings to shoot–they are so obviously in love and they were so much fun! They had a very intimate ceremony at Ottawa City Hall this Saturday that they put together in only 3 days! To emphasize that point, they are the only couple we have ever booked via telephone consultation. I was a little nervous about shooting their wedding without having met them first, but we got on famously! Zaneta was absolutely gorgeous in her off beat turquoise dress, which set her blue eyes off beautifully. Tom looked relaxed enough in his red Campers, but joked a little about wearing running shoes to make a quick escape if he changed his mind. They will be having a second ceremony in their native Poland to celebrate with all of their friends and family next spring. For the time being, here is a peek at their Canadian wedding!

At first Tom was joking about running away, he did wear his running shoes afterall!

This Sunday we got together with an amazing couple Val and Marc. We will be capturing their wedding this October! We met them at the spring wedding show in Ottawa and had a good little chat with them, not too long after that we received an e-mail from “the fun couple” and we knew exactly who it was! We are definitely proud to be their photographers and are looking forward to their wedding just outside of Ottawa in Renfrew!
