{Baby Ella} is almost 1
Last Friday we had the pleasure of a visit from Jamie and Matt, and their daughter Ella. Ella will turn 1 this September, and Jamie wanted some family photos with all 3 smiling. We actually photographed Jamie and Matt’s wedding back in 2009, which you may remember had a “little” bit of a firefighter theme. Of course we had to continue on the tradition!
{Sara & Marc} Vintage Christmas Wedding
Dress:Dominique Levesque Bridal
Veil, Gloves, Clutch: Etsy
Floral: Keepsakes Almonte
Hair and Makeup: Mahogany Salon and Spa, Carleton Place
Ceremony & Reception: Temples Sugar Camp
Accommodations: Clyde Hall
This post is a testament to the fact that social media works…really, really works. Earlier this year, I befriended Sara on Twitter; I had been following a conversation regarding her upcoming vintage styled wedding, and I suggested that she have a look at one my favorite sites, Ruffled Blog. We hit it off, and eventually we got together to talk about their wedding photography. Brian and I were thrilled! Sara has a cool retro vibe going on, and regularly blogs about her ventures into vintage fashion–she’s cute, bubbly, and charismatic. Marc, at first, seemed to be the total opposite. He seemed quiet, but gave us a pleasant surprise when he very eloquently told us about many of the details of their day…he was undoubtedly head over heels in love with Sara and an absolute equal in the planning process. They told us of their dream winter wedding, designed around Christmas, which is a very special time for Sara, just as it was for her beloved mother.
This past Friday, we had the privilege of photographing Sara and Marc’s beautifully intimate, vintage styled wedding. We started out at the gorgeous new Mahogany Salon and Spa, which was an experience in itself! Clyde Hall in the village of Lanark made a stunning backdrop for the preparation, and the beautifully rustic Temple’s Sugar Camp was the setting for the unique ceremony. This day was a heartfelt tribute to the love and support of family and friends, both present and regrettably absent. It was very emotional–for those of you who follow our blog, you already know that I cry at some point during each of our weddings–well on Friday, it happened at least 5 times. Sara wore a custom necklace, given to her by Marc’s mother, with a photo of her and her mother, and each flower in her bouquet had a specific meaning for her. The brooch attached to it was made by Marc’s mother for his grandmother. There was even time set aside to add an ornament to one of the trees in honour of Sara’s mother, and it remained there to oversee the festivities.

Cliff Mautner’s Dynamic Location Lighting Seminar
Among the many sessions we attended at the DWF Convention this month, one of our favorites was the Dynamic Location Lighting seminar taught by Cliff Mautner. For those of you unfamiliar with his work, Cliff has been a professional photographer for over 25 years, has photographed over 750 weddings, and is known as being able to create amazing images regardless of the lighting conditions.
He has been named one of the world’s top photographers, and prides himself on being able to produce photographs that are technically strong and has no need to edit them afterward to produce a beautiful product. We had the pleasure of learning from him, up close and personally…if you notice, we’re so excited about being small town Ottawa wedding photographers on stage with a big city photographer of his caliber, I’m staring at Cliff with a big goofy grin on my face!

{Jamie & Matt} Ottawa Wedding Photographer at The Carleton Heritage Inn
Well, what a party! We had the honour of being Jamie & Matt’s official wedding photographers this past weekend in Carleton Place. Jamie has been Ivanette’s esthetician since we moved to Almonte and has become a great friend since. Matt and Jamie have been together for seven years, so when he proposed to Jamie last October she called us to make sure we were available for her wedding. Matt is a volunteer fireman with Carleton Place, and well, us firefighters can sure throw a party! I’m sure the good folks over at the Carleton Heritage Inn are going to need a break after two firefighter weddings in a row!
Here are some shots from Jamie & Matt’s wedding:

So it seems the boys had a little difficulty getting ready and had to rely on Jason’s expert knowledge to put them together!

Jamie and Matt had a wonderful service held at the Carleton Place United Church, where lots of laughs were had in a gorgeous relaxed ceremony!

After the ceremony, Jamie and Matt made their exit in first class, aboard Carleton Place’s ladder truck complete with lights and sirens! There were many congratulatory honks as they traveled up the main street…

We had a great day over at Riverside Park with lots of fun formals!

Once dinner was over, it was time to party, and Carleton Place’s Ocean Wave Fire Company sure knows how to get a party going!

And of course to finish the night off, the members of the Ocean Wave Fire Company had to gather in to get a photo with the gorgeous bride!
